No. Do not count Sea Essence Body Butter as sunscreen after turmeric soap. Its product page describes a moisturiser and does not state an SPF or UVA rating. Applying it after washing does not complete your sun protection.
The useful question is whether the exact product you are applying carries suitable sunscreen labelling. A rich texture, a moisturising ingredient or the word “glow” cannot answer that for you.
What should the sunscreen label say?
The NHS sun-safety guide recommends at least SPF 30 and at least four-star UVA protection. SPF describes UVB protection; the UVA rating addresses a different part of sunlight. The NHS also explains that a UVA-in-a-circle mark indicates the EU standard.
Some moisturisers do include sunscreen. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recognises these dual-purpose products, provided they offer broad-spectrum protection and SPF 30 or above. That is a claim to check on the finished product, rather than protection to estimate from individual oils or butters.
Where Body Butter fits after your shower
The directions for Sea Essence Turmeric + Kojic Acid Soap say to lather, cleanse gently and rinse, and separately advise broad-spectrum SPF during the daytime. Body Butter can fill the moisturising part of that routine when it suits your skin; it does not take over the sunscreen step.
Use Body Butter as directed on slightly damp skin. For the application details, see our body-butter guide. Then follow your sunscreen’s own directions for application and timing. Do not reduce the amount of sunscreen because you have already applied moisturiser.
Plan for the time outdoors, not just the shower
A morning shower followed by an afternoon outdoors involves two separate decisions: what your skin needs after washing, and how you will protect exposed skin outside. Keep sunscreen where you will remember to use it, rather than treating the bathroom routine as the end of the job.
Apply sunscreen before going outside and cover exposed areas, including easily missed ears, the neck and tops of feet. The AAD’s application guidance advises reapplying every two hours outdoors and immediately after swimming or sweating.
For a longer day out, add protective clothing and shade. The NHS advises particular care between 11am and 3pm from March to October in the UK. Cloud cover does not rule out sunburn, and sunscreen is only one part of sun protection.
What if you bought turmeric soap for dark marks?
Keep sun protection in the plan. In its guidance on dark spots in darker skin tones, the AAD recommends a tinted sunscreen containing iron oxide, alongside broad-spectrum SPF 30 or above and water resistance. This addresses visible light as well as UV protection; it is separate from any cosmetic claims made for a cleansing bar.
You do not need to calculate how much protection turmeric, shea butter or another ingredient might provide. Use the soap for cleansing, choose a moisturiser for comfort, and rely on properly labelled sunscreen, clothing and shade for sun protection.
